Kehidakustány and the surroundings
Kehidakustány:

- Deák Mansion: for Deák Ferenc 200th birth anniversary an exhibition opened in Kehida in that building that was Deák Ferenc’s home between 1808 and 1854.
- The Deák mansion has been renovated, and this memorial place awaits visitors with exhibitions from the spring of 2004.
- Lady Day Roman Catholic Church: the consecration of the church happened on 5th April in 1755. Lady Day respect vein it was ordained.He protects this title currently. The tower was made ready in 1807.
- Deák well: natural value which can be attended free of charge.
- The ancient church of the village built in the 13th century can be found in the cemetery of Kehida, later it became the burial place of the Deák family, today it is a chapel. The altar XVIIIth century baroque work
Kallósd:
- Village over the valley of the river Zala, famous for its round church from Árpád's age, popular excursion target. The church was built for Sain Anna’s respect in Romanesque style around 1260.
- Concerts are held in the church every summer, in July and August.
Zalacsány (5 km):
- Angler lake and spare time park: all membesr of the family may feel well during the summer holidays at the angler lake. Programs: angling, bathing, hiking, relaxation, riding, buffet.
- At present it is already a cultural and recreation centre. Thousands of tourists come to see the programmes of the open air theatre from May to September. From May on all Thursdays dance and tournaments.
- The village offers sights and curiosity, therefore you can take some trip: You can visit Batthyany Castle which was built in 1500, where you should look at the mammuth pines ,200-250 years old and unique in Hungary.
KIS-BALATON AND SURROUNDINGS
Kis-Balaton (25 km):
The Kis Balaton, as a huge wetland habitat is unique in the whole of Europe, which is why it has always been recorded by international nature conservation. It is famous for its wonderful world of birds
- Kányavári island: The island excellent accessible from a distance between Sármellék and Balatonmagyaród. In the entrance a wooden bridge offering a special sight, which was renewed in 2005..
- Buffalo reserve: between Balatonmagyaród and Zalakomár on Kápolnapuszta can be found the buffalo reserve. Daytime the animals graze far from the stable, but around 15-16 o’clock the guests may see them .
- Kis Balaton House: The Kis Balaton House can be found next to Zalabér and Zalaszabar byroad. The aim of the house the natural values, demonstration of the historical and ethnographic concerns, and foundation of a cultural centre. A single chapel, Cyrill-Metod memorial column and archaeological explorations can be found near the house.
Zalavár (15 km):
- Ruins of Saint Adorjan Basilica: The church was built by Liutpram archbishop of Salzburg around 852-853.
- From the 11th century Zalavár became the centre of the county. North of the abbey a parish church was built for the converts, in the place of which a chapel was erected in honour of St. Stephen
KESZTHELY AND SURROUNDINGS
Keszthely (15 km):
The Roman founded a city to the south of today's Keszthely. The traces of the settlement lead on the Middle Ages.
At the time of the Turkish rule the nunnery and church located in the heart of the city were reconstructed into a fortress.
At the beginning of the 18th century Keszthely got under the ownership of the Festetics family and in 1745 they built a pompous castle Georgikon, the first high-level agricultural institute of Europe was established in 1797 by Count György Festetics; the institute first educated professionals only for the domain but soon it became of national significance.
The Helikon Ceremony of Literature first organized in 1817 has become a tradition by now.
Keszthely had two centres : the „modern one” and the neighbourhood of the castle. The majority of the sights today are on these two places and in the pedestrian presinct.
- Town Hall: its bases are from the 18th century. The town hall in today's form has pigtail style. The mayor's office can be found here.
- The Gothic Parish Church: was built for the Franciscan order settled here, it was used already in 1386. During the Turkish times it was border fortresses. After the Turkish rule the church was renovated in Baroque style.
- Festetics Castle: This wonderful Baroque building is the third largest castle of the country, it is a real aristocratical palace with 101 rooms; Helikon Castle Museum inside the palace. Large library room with original furniture completed in 1801 is in the southern wing of the building. Number of books exceeding 86,000 volumes.
- Marzipan Museum: 200 metres far from the castle you can find the Marzipán Museum and confectioner’s shop, where 100 pieces ornament works made of marzipan of the confectioner masters can be seen here.
- Georgikon Farm Museum: Beyond the history of the Hungarian high-education of agriculture, collection of cultivation of cereals and viticulture, cartwright's and smith's workshop and exhibition of coaches can be found here.
- Balaton Museum: in the neo-baroque building exibitions about the history of surroundings of Balaton, plants and animals of the lake, museum of Roman and mediaeval stonework .Works of painter János Halápy in one room of the building.
- Boat trips from the Keszthely bay: In sumer season different boat trips wait for the guests. Information about the accurate times on the following phone numbers to be enquired: 83/312-093, 312-136.
Fenékpuszta (20 km):
- Valcum ruins: The buildings of the fortress are still under the ground, only three of its remains can be seen: the southern gate, the one-time basilica and a store-house. The gate was built from the Roman fortification in the IVth century
Balatonederics (20 km):
- Africa museum: the museum was founded by Dr. Nagy Endre the famous Africa a hunter. Valuable and special trophies, Tanzanian ethnographic collection can be found here.
Szigliget (25 km):
- Szigliget located in the neighbourhood of Badacsony it is accessible ont he road 71 on the north shore of Balaton,by ship , by a train, or by bicycle on Balaton Bicycle road. Szigliget today is one of the most beautiful area of Balaton. The highest dot is 243 m.
- On the rocks of Szigliget you can see the more than 730-year-old castle built by the abbey of Pannonhalma in 1262.
- The neoclassical Esterházy mansion in the centre of the village is a rest-house for writers today. Its 12 ha park is a protected botanical garden.
Badacsony (30 km):
- Egry József Memorial Museum:. Summer cottage of the famous painter, József Egry, at the port; today the house of the "lover of Balaton" is a memorial museum
- Szegedy Róza House: in the vine-dresser house can be found Balaton Almanac exhibition. Memorial exhibition of literature on the second floor of the building with a porch and a thatched
- Folly Botanic Garden with great trees and evergreens offers recreation if you walk to Badacsonyörs. Facilities of nice excursions from Badacsony to the surrounding hills (St. György hill and Gulács) and to the Castle Hill of Szigliget and the ruins on the top of
Rezi (15 km):
- Rezi Castle: the castle can be reached with a 2km far tour. The fortress of Rezi was mentioned first in a charter in 1378. Dungeon wall sections are still visible
- From the fortress there is a beautiful view overlooks the valley.
Zalaszántó (15 km):
- Buddhist Statue: an area of 10 ha on Kovácsi hill above the village is called the Park of Human Rights. The first edifice of the park, a Buddhistic statue, was built in 1992-93. The Dalai Lama, exiled leader of Tibet was also present at the ceremony of inauguration of the statue.
ZALAEGERSZEG AND SURROUNDINGS
Zalaegerszeg (30 km):
- On Deak square, on the site of the former border castle, commemorated by a memorial stone, stands the County Hall building, which houses the county court today. It was designed by an Austrian architect, Franz Allio. It is a listed Baroque building.
- The Baroque church was built between 1750 and 1760. Opposite the church is the priests' residence and offices.
- Between this building and the church is Balatoni road, which passes the Sports Hall accommodating some 4,700 spectators.
- Opposite the church house stands the Arany Barany Hotel, which adjoins the County Archives and a three-floor office building.
- We can see the Town Hall, with Bela Toth's equestrian statue of the poet and general, Miklos Zrinyi in front of it. The statue was put in place in 1989.
- Behind the town hall is the Town Concert and Exhibition Hall, which was built in 1904 as a synagogue.
- The two most frequented museums of the town are the Gocsej Village Museum, and the Hungarian Museum of the Oil Industry next to it. The first Hungarian regional open-air museum was opened in 1968. Constant exhibitions: Göcsej folk architecture, Finno-Ugric National Park, the national costume of Karpatian Pool on dolls, Czúgh potter dynasty's exhibition.
- Four kilometres away from the centre along the road to Lake Balaton in the Csacs district, the 84-hectare arboretum shows specimens of all the trees of Hungary.
- The television tower with its cafe on top of the hill has been open to visitors since 1975.
- The "valley of azaleas" between the television tower and Alsoerdei road or road offers an exquisite glimpse of these botanical rarities.
SÜMEG AND SURROUNDINGS
Sümeg (25 km):
- Sümegi castle: The castle built in the middle of the 13th century served as an episcopal seat for 200 years. The Baroque Episcopal Palace was built by Bishop Márton.
- Different programmes wait for the guests in a whole year in the castle: children programs, castle games, mediaeval fencing, mediaeval dinners.
- Exceptional impressions are given by the exhibition of saddle- and horse-furniture history.
- Horse-riding, cycling, fishing, hunting and walks are all offered to enjoy the beautiful countryside around Sümeg.
Bazsi (20 km):
- Simon István Memorial house: The church and Simon István Memorial House are the sights of the settlement which were built in 1787, and they are in original state. The exhibition in the building presents the poet's life, in the barn the old agricultural equipment can be seen.
